What a wonderful short. I always have to post these when I find them.

born that way

I saw this today and thought it was a really well put together short. The character development is pretty good for it being so short. Not to mention the soundtrack is awesome. Pretty violent though.

music monday – zooey deschanel and joseph gordon-levitt – why do you let me stay here

This video is sort of an addendum to the movie 500 Days of Summer that Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt made with director Marc Webb. The song is called Why do you let me Stay Here by She & Him. I think it’s a fantastic video.

kiss kiss bang bang (2005)

I first heard about Kiss Kiss Bang Bang from the Reddit community a few weeks ago. I got around to seeing it a couple weeks ago and it’s one of those movies you’d want to see more than once. A lot is happening at once and it may take a couple times to catch it all. This movie was part black comedy part murder mystery. The haphazard main character, Harry (Robert Downey Jr.), plays off Gay Perry (Val Kilmer) really well. I recommend this movie with no reservations and give it a 9 out of 10.

lars and the real girl (2007)

Diana and I watched this movie last night. I have heard mixed reviews, but on Rotten Tomatoes it got 81% which is pretty good. This movie is essentially about a guy who becomes temporarily delusional in order to make up for some part of his past. He dates a sex doll and thinks that she is alive and talking to everyone.

Ryan Gosling is excellent in this movie. He plays the character very well all the way down to nervous ticks. You may remember him from Half Nelson which was also a really good movie. At the beginning of Lars and the Real Girl you get a very short back story on Lars and his brother. Lars is very withdrawn from social interaction and when he gets the doll, you think he’s just off his rocker. This is the turning point of the movie, the make it or break it part. I can understand why some people wouldn’t necessarily like it at this point. He basically starts talking to a doll and acting as if she’s real. But as you continue watching the movie, you soon realize that that fact is beside the point. There is something in Lars’ past that he is compensating for and once you understand where he’s coming from the viewer is much more sympathetic. Lars projects his previous self onto the doll so that he can be more social and outgoing. I would recommend this film to anyone that has a little bit of imagination and I’d rate it an 8 our of 10. I wouldn’t mind seeing it again.
