Warren Buffett Granddaughter – Nicole Buffett
Posted by Peter Owen | Filed under Economy, family
Nicole Buffett is the adopted Granddaughter, of sorts, of Warren Buffett who was cut off from him after she made some “brusque” statements for a documentary. This story caught my eye and was interesting to read.
What’s it like when your grandpa is the richest man in the world? For Nicole Buffett, it means forgoing cable TV and health insurance and making do on $40,000 a year. Here, she dishes on her upbringing and why her grandfather Warren Buffett disowned her.

Tiny delivery system with a big impact on cancer cells
Posted by Peter Owen | Filed under science
“Researchers in Pennsylvania are reporting for the first time that nanoparticles 1/5,000 the diameter of a human hair encapsulating an experimental anticancer agent, kill human melanoma and drug-resistant breast cancer cells growing in laboratory cultures. The discovery could lead to the development of a new generation of anti-cancer drugs that are safer and more effective than conventional chemotherapy agents, the scientists suggest. The research is scheduled for the Dec. 10 issue of ACS’ Nano Letters.”

D-Wave Still Trying to Prove they have a Quantum Computer
Posted by Peter Owen | Filed under technology
“While founded in 1999, D-Wave remains a start-up because it has yet to ship a computer that customers can actually buy. Much of the company’s work is locked in the theoretical realm of quantum computing – long considered a sort of black arts backwater of the computing field full of promise but thin on near-term practicality.”
I have heard plenty of news about this company and how it’s been trying to prove that it created a quantum computer for years now. Somehow I’m still a bit skeptical just like that company, Steorn, that says they created something that creates energy from nothing (or at least nothing we understand).

3D Snow Prints
Posted by Peter Owen | Filed under Art
Here are a bunch of snow prints that appear to be 3D, but were formed by people pressing their faces, etc. into the snow that was on cars. It’s a little eerie, but very cool.
